From Spanish almud and Portuguese almude, both from المُدّ, from Arabic مُدّ, probably via 𐡬𐡣𐡩𐡠 and מוֹדְיָא or ܡܘܿܕܝܳܐ from 𒉘𒈨𒌍 (kind of vessel, unit of volume). almude. Cognate with μόδιος, modius, muid, and mud.
