Spanish despachar and/or Italian dispacciare. Further etymology is uncertain. For first element des-, see dis-. Second element probably from either *pactāre (to fasten"), *pactiare or Latin -pedicāre (to entrap, shackle), from pedica, from pēs. Ultimately related to impeach through shared Latin root.
